Baeyani was created by Momo Manalang, a queer Filipino-American bead and fiber artist based in Queens, NY. Her shop name marries the Tagalog words, "Babae" (Woman) and "Bayani" (Hero), paying homage to the Filipino political prisoners she integrated with between 2019 - 2020. Partial proceeds from her beaded earrings contribute to Malaya Movement's Palayain Campaign, a fund designated for the immediate and long-term needs of Filipino political prisoners and their families.
